Clayburn Village Clayburn Village was the first company town built in British Columbia. The village was built around the Clayburn brick factory founded by Charles Maclure in 1905 after he found good quality fire clay on Sumas Mountain. The village also had three stores, a bank and a church. The village still stands and has been designated as a Heritage Conservation area. It is located 5 km (3 mi) northeast of Abbotsford. Trethewey House Heritage Site & Matsqui-Sumas-Abbotsford (MSA) Museum This house, built by baron J.O. Tretheway, has been restored to 1925 with period rooms. On the main floor there are exhibits telling the story of the first (the Sto:lo people) and subsequent peoples to pioneer the land.
