Abbotsford, the fifth largest city in British Columbia, is known as the City in the Country for its mix of urban amenities and rural atmosphere. Conveniently located approximately 40 minutes from downtown Vancouver between the Fraser River and the U.S.A. border, the city boasts breathtaking views of the spectacular Mount Baker. Abbotsford offers ample opportunity for exciting outdoor activities, whether it be mountain biking, swimming, fishing, canoeing or even skydiving. The area around Abbotsford was first inhabited by prospectors during the Fraser River Gold Rush of the mid-1800s, and today this rich history is commemorated in a series of colourful murals that adorn the public buildings in downtown Abbotsford. Abbotsford boasts a thriving agricultural industry and a vibrant arts community, as many respected artists and musicians call the area home. In August, visitors can take in the world-famous Abbotsford International Air Show, featuring impressive flying displays by renowned performers such as the Canadian Forces Snow Birds.
